St Thomas Technical returned to the second round of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup competition for the first time in six years, after hammering Robert Lightbourne High 7-0 in their Zone O rescheduled game yesterday.

They were one of four schools that secured a place in the 32 for the second round that is scheduled to start tomorrow.

Maggotty High and Munro College from Zone E, as well as Cedric Titus High from Zone C were the other teams to progress. Munro College finished third in Zone E but took the best third-placed spot from Pool Two with their 1.83 points average.

At Golden Grove yesterday, Shamar Hamilton scored a hat-trick in an eight-minute span early in the game to power St Thomas Technical to a big win as they moved to 16 points, overtaking Paul Bogle High for the runner-up spot behind Seaforth High.

Hamilton, who now has seven goals to his name, scored in the ninth, 13th and 17th minutes, while Roy Rebow (24th), Ricardo Stewart (40th), Demario Adams (49th) and Enroy Watson (72nd) were the other scorers.

Cedric Titus High’s progression was as a result of Herbert Morrison’s 1-3 loss to Zone C winners William Knibb, in their rescheduled game played in Martha Brae. Herbert Morrison needed to win to overtake Cedric Titus, who completed their schedule on Saturday.

Cristojae Daley scored a brace in the 57th and 80th minutes, while substitiute Nicardo Lawrence (86th) got the other in William Knibb’s victory. Camarco Brown (73rd) pulled one back for the losers.

Maggotty High edged Sydney Pagon 1-0 to finish on 24 points behind Zone E winners STETHS for the second year, while Munro College blanked Newell High 2-0 to take the best third-placed spot with 22 points.

Earlier, Central High edged Vere Technical 1-0 in their rescheduled game to finish tops in Zone N. Both teams were already through to the second round.
