Usain Bolt has expressed disappointment at the performance of Jamaica’s men team at the recently concluded World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

According to Bolt, while the women and field events athletes delivered,

the men let down the nation with their performance.

“Everybody is disappointed with the males. Everybody is calling me, but

it is just one of those things, I guess. We have to give it time to get back to

where it should be,” Bolt said.

Jamaica won 12 medals at the World Championships in Doha, with the men

directly contributing three while being half of the mixed relay quartet that

won silver in the 4x400m relay.

Tajay Gayle won gold in the long jump and Fedrick Dacres got silver in the discus, while the men’s 4×400 metres team won silver.

According to Bolt, his disappointment in the men’s team was minimised by

the surprise performances of the island’s field events athletes.

“The males when I was there would have done better. The field events made

up for us,” Bolt said.

Apart from Gayle and Dacres, Jamaica’s other medals in the field came

from Shanieka Ricketts and Danniel Thomas-Dodd, who both won silver. Ricketts

did the triple jump and Thomas-Dodd the shot put.

Bolt, who retired in 2017, participated at six World Championships and three Olympic Games. At the World Championships, he won 11 gold, two silver and one bronze medal, while at the Olympic Games he won eight gold medals.

He is the world record holder of both the 100 and 200 metres with 9.58 seconds and 19.19 seconds, respectively.
