The ICWI/Jamaica Reach to Recovery Pink Run 5K planning committee is encouraging Jamaicans to register for the upcoming fundraising road race ahead of the registration deadline on Friday, October 18.

Chairperson of the Pink Run Committee, Samantha Samuda is encouraging participants to avoid the rush. “We are encouraging individuals and groups to register online at runningeventsja.com to avoid the possible rush at our registration outlets.”

Registration outlets this year include the Pink Run Secretariat at Toyota Jamaica on Old Hope Road in Kingston, where fundraising merchandise is also on sale.

Additionally, registration is also being facilitated island-wide at ICWI branches. Namely Kingston, Ocho Rios, Old Harbour, Montego Bay,Mandeville, Brown’s Town, Falmouth, Lucea, Savanna-la-mar, Spanish Town and Portmore.

In its 19 year span, the 5K has developed a reputation for raising awareness about breast cancer, and funds to help those in need of life-saving treatment. The Run is also a good platform for persons who use road races as a part of their fitness routines.

Running Events Director Alfred “Frano” Francis is urging high schools and track clubs to register for the upcoming road race Kingston on Sunday, October 27 as a part of their training regime.

“The terrain of the race’s route makes it useful background training for next year’s track and field season. So sporting clubs and high school teams preparing for a rigorous season should register for it especially as it is one of the last 5K runs for the year,” he said.

Francis noted that there are special incentives that groups and students can take advantage of. “The entry cost for groups of 50 or more is $1,200 each compared to $1500 for individuals registering. This year it costs only $1000 to register students, so high schools should sign up and benefit from this discount,” he added.

Mrs Samuda underscored that by registering, participants will also be contributing to the welfare of persons affected by breast cancer.

“Each person that signs up for the Pink Run will be running to save a life as the funds raised at the event go to Jamaica Cancer Society’s Jamaica Reach to Recovery which assists hundreds of Jamaicans affected by the disease,” she added.

In the last five years, ICWI/Jamaica Reach to Recovery Pink Run has raised over 10 million and assisted some 500 persons affected by breast cancer. This year’s fun run is being staged under the theme “Tutus and Tall Socks, The Colour Edition 2” – a themed 5K Run/Walk with an optional pink powder element for registrants.

The ICWI/Jamaica Reach to Recovery Pink Run 5k is a major event on the Jamaica Cancer Society’s calendar for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, celebrated each year during October.
