Some Grand Bahama public schools reopened after Hurricane Dorian
Schools on Grand Bahama in The Bahamas officially re-opened on Wednesday (Oct 16) for teachers and support staff.
“We are very pleased that schools will re-open on Wednesday for teachers and support staff. On Thursday and Friday, students will report to school,” said Ivan Butler, district superintendent of education.
“As of Monday, we hope all the students will be in schools. The schools affected the most will re-open a few days later, as certain protocols will be in place for the safety and comfort of students and teachers,” he added.
The unexpected extended summer break was due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian which slammed into Northern Bahamas on September 1. Hurricane Dorian turned to fields of rubble buildings in Abaco and Grand Bahama. Parts of the island are still in ruins and thousands of people remain displaced.
