The 2018 circuit racing champion Kyle Gregg will have his hands full at Heroes of Speed on Monday, October 21, at Dover Raceway, St Ann, as the final race meet for the year has attracted plenty of interest from rivals old and new.

“I feel good. I believe I just have to podium in one race to seal the Thundersport Championship. For the overall driver’s championship we are currently third. It will be hard to win overall, but it’s still possible,” Gregg told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.

Gregg is coming off a strong season that saw several rivals fall by the wayside and an impressive performance internationally at the recently held Williams Industries International Race Meet at Bushy Park, Barbados. But he is expecting the heat to be turned up next Monday.

“The competition is looking strong. Everyone seems to be flying in professional race drivers and teams. Everybody is in attack mode,” said Greg.

Leading that attack mode is 20-year-old Nicolás Castillo. Originally from Bogota, Columbia, Castillo is the 2018 United States National Auto Sport Association (NASA) Southeast Champion, winning that title driving a Radical SR3 in that series’ Thunder Unlimited class.

He joins forces with LueBoyz Racing, securing use of their Radical and team resources for the upcoming meet.

“It’s going to be quite interesting to battle Kyle, David Summerbell, Douglas ‘Hollywood’ Gore and all those other guys. It’s going to be a really tough race, hard competition, but I like the challenge,” said Castillo.

While Monday will be Castillo’s first wheel in anger at Dover Raceway, he has been to Jamaica before as a spectator at the last race meet. Since securing the drive, he has tapped into the LueBoyz local knowledge of the circuit, and the competition, to get up to speed as much as possible.

“What I’m expecting at this first race is to be as close as I can to those guys because certainly I’m the rookie at this point.”

The international connection continues as Gore has enlisted the help of Swedish-based OlsbergsMSE to sort out his KiA Rio race car.

“It’s the first time since I have had the car that I feel optimistic,” Gore said.

With all the action in the Thundersport one would easily forget the rest, but the competition will be tough there too as 14-year-old Tommi Gore will join the gird at Dover Raceway starting his circuit racing career in the Improved Performance class.

Prominent names to look out for are Andre Anderson, Peter Rae and Oliver Townsend.

Townsend will be part of Team Startec, making their debut with a two-car line of which the other driver is Manoj Ramchandani in the Super Street Naturally Aspirated class.
