Pastors welcome Kanye West to Jamaica
Although some persons have
questioned the reason for Kanye West’s performance in Jamaica, it seems some
clergymen have welcomed him with open arms.
The American rapper
shocked many Jamaicans on Wednesday when it was announced that he would be bringing
his Sunday Service Music Experience to the Emancipation Park in New Kingston on
Friday at 7 p.m.
And while there is some
scrutiny, Rev Dr Al Miller, the pastor at Fellowship Tabernacle, has no issue
with Kanye staging a concert in Jamaica.
“If he’s praising God, then it is good,” Miller said.
He added that if Kanye has
turned his life over to God, then he should be supported, as the love of God is
free to all.
Scrutiny
Like Miller, Kevin Page, the pastor of the McDonald Lane New Testament Church of God, did not condemn Kanye. Page alluded to the biblical story of Paul when he tried to join the disciples but was rejected as they did not believe in his transformation. However, Barnabas took and groomed him, and in return, Paul was one of the greatest disciples that led many people to God.
“The same thing might
be happening for Kanye,” said Page.
Although they welcome him,
the scrutiny that Kanye has received since declaring that he is now a Christian
cannot be ignored. The ‘Sunday Service’ has received much backlash from persons
who question whether it is a religious gathering or a cult.
New Christian
Meanwhile, Christian youth leader Munro Wisdom had reservations about the event. While admitting that he is not a Kanye fan, he said that he is worried that the concert is more about Kanye than the Word of God.
“Many gospel concerts have
been hosted in Jamaica and the support is not the same,” said Wisdom.
He added that he is concerned
that Kanye is a new Christian and should probably get more counselling before
continuing his discipleship.
