CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon — Defending champions Clarendon College led all four semi-finalists as well as former champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), Garvey Maceo High, and Dinthill Technical through to the quarter-finals of the ISSA/W ata daCosta Cup football competition after yesterday’s return legs of the second round.

The 16 winners on aggregate in the second round advanced to the quarter-finals where they will be placed in four groups with games set to start on Tuesday.

Clarendon College hammered Green Pond High 5-0 for an 8-1 aggregate victory; Cornwall College beat Munro College 3-0 to advance 4-1; Frome Technical advanced ahead of Vere Technical 4-2 on penalty kicks after they played out a 2-2 scoreline over both legs, while Dinthill Technical blanked Central High 4-0 for a 5-0 aggregate result.

STETHS blew past Brimmervale High 7-0 for a 12-1 aggregate result; Garvey Maceo advanced ahead of Spalding 2-0, for a 4-1 aggregate score, while Dinthill Technical had their biggest win of the season, 4-0, over Central High, and Manchester High were 8-0 winners over St Thomas Technical for a 9-0 aggregate score.

Meanwhile, B B Coke High and Manning’s School turned around first-round losses to join the quarter-finalists, while former champions Rusea’s High were knocked out at this stage for the second year running, beaten by McGrath High.

At Juici Field, Roderick Granville scored a double to lead Clarendon College as Omar Reid, Jaland Larmand, and Ricardo Beckford also scored as they cruised to their seventh-straight win.

Clarendon College had won the first leg 3-1 in Montego Bay on Thursday, but were ruthless yesterday as they booked their spot in the quarter-finals for the sixth-straight season.

Raheim Heaven in the 36th minute, Solano Birch in the 84th minute, and substitute Brandon Curate in time added scored as Cornwall College rebounded from Thursday’s 1-1 draw away to beat Munro College 3-0 for a 4-1 aggregate triumph.

Cornwall College, last season’s beaten finalist, were made to work hard early in the game that saw the first half played mostly in heavy rain, as they maintained their supremacy over their oldest rivals in schoolboy football.

Frome Technical were held 1-1 by Vere Technical for the second-straight game before winning on penalty kicks, while Dinthill Technical advanced past Central High with goals from Karim Bryanm, Carlington Facey, Milton Brown, and Justin Irons.

Michael German scored a hat-trick, Antonio Biggs had a double, as Kevon Garwood and Shamar Wallace got one each as STETHS ran rough shod over Brimmervale High, who they had beaten 5-1 on Wednesday.

Garvey Maceo had goals from Gregory Cousins and Barrington Blake in their 2-0 win over Central High.

At Manchester High, the home team also had a big win as Dane Golding led the way with a three-timer. Jonhoi Simpson scored two, as Wayne Atkinson, Yarek Carnegie, and Shaquille Campbell also got on the score sheet.

Anchovy High created school history by beating Alston High 4-0 for a 5-1 aggregate result, as Shaquille West scored a double, and Mark Smith and Renaldo Grant got one each as they advanced to the quarter-final for the first time.

Jason Dyer scored for B B Coke as they edged Lennon 1-0 for a 2-2 aggregate result, but they progressed via the away goal rule.

Manning’s School turned around their first-leg loss to Ocho Rios with a 2-0 victory at Frome for a 2-1 aggregate result, with Antonio Wagstaff and Tavar Thompson scoring.

McGrath High are into the quarter-finals for the first time after they eliminated Rusea’s High with a come-from-behind 1-1 draw in the first game at Dinthill Technical for a 2-1 win after they had edged the former champions 1-0 in the first leg on Thursday.

Tyrique Clarke had given Rusea’s High the lead to tie up the score at 1-1 on aggregate before Jordan Hylton scored the late equaliser.

Maggotty High advanced past Oracabessa 3-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw at Drax Hall, while Petersfield High ended William Knibb Memorial’s best season in years, beating them 2-1 for the second time in four days.
