DRAX HALL, St Ann — Waterhouse FC hold pole position in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) despite being beaten 1-3 by a rampant looking Mount Pleasant FA in their first-round meeting at Drax Hall on Sunday.

There are no unbeaten teams left in the RSPL after both Molynes United and Waterhouse lost for the first time this season.

Waterhouse remain the leaders with 19 points from eight games, only ahead of Molynes due to a superior goal difference.

Mount Pleasant FA won for the second time — back-to-back results at home — to improve to sixth place with 10 points.

Jourdaine Fletcher celebrated his second start of the season with an acrobatic opening goal in the 40th minute, while Francois Swaby struck in the 45th. Kesslan Hall, who replaced Swaby in the second half, scored in time added.

Andre Fletcher had given Waterhouse a glimmer of hope with a goal in the 81st minute when the St Andrew-based team threw everything in attack.

The game, which started at 4:00 pm, ended under inadequate floodlights and with some controversy late on. Waterhouse’s goal came while a second ball was on the field, and what would have been a goal for Mount Pleasant was called back after heated protests by the visitors.

Paul “Tegat” Davis, the Mount Pleasant coach, welcomed the win after picking up just two points from their previous three outings.

“Yes, this was a good win for us. We needed this — it’s been a long time we have been playing good football and creating a lot of chances. Today we took three chances, it is good,” he told reporters after the game.

Waterhouse Head Coach Marcel Gayle took his team’s first loss in stride, saying they waited too late to mount a comeback.

“This is a tough one and we are away from home, but we are grateful for the performance,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

“I think the fans were entertained, we just left it a little too late and was not lucky. It’s just one of those days, but credit to Mt Pleasant. They did what they had to do to win the game,” he said.

Fletcher produced a bit of skill five minutes before the break when he produced a scissors kick, meeting a cross from the right side to turn the ball inside the far post.

Swaby doubled the advantage just before the half-time whistle when he was in the perfect position, all alone inside the six-yard box to tap in a cross from Daniel Green.

Kemar Beckford could have killed off the game as a contest 10 minutes into the second half, but he wildly missed from the top of the six-yard box.

Andre Fletcher threw Waterhouse a lifeline when he beat goalkeeper David Swaby late on.

Mount Pleasant were able to withstand the all-out attack and finally ended the resistance in time added when Hall’s low, hard shot from the left flank flew past Haughton and into the far corner of the goal.
