King Challice comes to the fore with ‘RED’
United States-based reggae artiste King Challice offers social commentary on RED.
At a time when radio and the dancehall space are filled with non-inspiring songs, singjay King Challice offers an alternative with his debut EP, RED.
Released
last month, RED is a combination of social commentary and
socio-politics, creatively crafted for all to relate.
“The
concept behind RED is to bring in an ‘uplifting’ vibe. The energy behind
RED is to remind others to be better individuals. My mission is to make
good music with powerful messages the world can relate to,” explained King
Challice.
King
Challice produced the songs on RED inside his home studio in Florida.
“I
incorporated universal rhythms with uplifting messages. I also wrote, produced,
mixed and mastered the whole EP,” he shared.
The
project features efforts such as Burning, Life Goals, Maica
and the title track, Red.
“What
inspires my work are the things I see on a daily basis. I observe everything around
me then find the best way to deliver it in a powerful manner,” said King
Challice.
Originally
from St James, King Challice (given name Junior Pennicooke) moved to the United
States at the age of six. His early musical influences included Burning Spear,
Culture, Akae Beka and Midnite.
“King Challice is a visionary, a vessel of the Most High. What I have to offer musically is powerful messages that can help one see a better way in life,” he reasoned.
Although
he resides in Florida, King Challice still held on to his Jamaican roots. He
has always been in love with music despite not knowing exactly what pat he
would take in the industry.
“My
cousin had a sound system and I would always watch him set it up and envision
myself either being a DJ or an artiste,” he said.
In fact,
he claims he wasn’t born a lyricist or a singer but rather worked his way to
that point.
