The Emotional Impact of Flowers in the Home

Studies have proven there is a link between mood improvement and flowers.

Flowers and plants may seem like the least important part of accessorising a space; however, they can have a big impact on the look and feel of a room.

There is a tendency to place flowers and plants in community areas around the home like foyers, living room and dining room tables, because it’s a great way to add character to a space.

Flowers show guests that not only do you care about your home, but also that you made the effort to extend a warm welcome.

Entry Foyer

The entryway is one of the most important parts of your home. It is the first thing seen when anyone enters through the front door. The entryway should therefore be welcoming and beautiful. Flowers in this space can create an inviting feeling.

A well-decorated entryway ideally would have a console table with a large statement floral piece. Placing a large mirror above the table will reflect the light in the room as well as the statement floral piece.

Orchids are exotic, refreshing and gorgeous; these are some of the most luxurious types of flowers to use in the entry foyer. From pink to white to deep and rich purples, orchids come in a stunning variety of colours. Orchids can change the entire feel of a room. A simple glass vase, metallic pot or wooden container will let the flowers steal the spotlight.

Home Office

When selecting a plant for your workspace in the home, be sure it’s appropriate for your area. Think: easy-to-care for and something that’s low-maintenance since it’ll be all about getting work done in this space. The presence of any kind of plant in the office has proven to be quite influential to the way people respond to work tasks.

For those who cannot pay much attention to caring for plants around them, Snake plant is the one plant to have in your home office. This plant has numerous benefits, all related to health, including air cleansing and oxygen release. These vertical plants survive in low light and can remain waterless or sunless for a while.

Have fun incorporating other now-trending décor elements, like a ceramic planter on a stand. This fresh decor aesthetic will help you to enhance the space. Group the standing planters together, if space allows, to elevate the area décor.

Patio & Outdoor Living Spaces

In the past, one area of the home that often came furthest in terms of design is the outdoor living space. This area is a great place to add fun tropical elements to transition to an outdoor space. With comfortable lounge seating and a casual dining space, an abundance of tropical greenery are a few elements that will create a chic outdoor living space.

Taking design tips from the ’50s; the leafy palm is making a style comeback. And of course, nothing pulls the look together like a living, breathing palm placed in a planter. Lush palms in the transition area bring the outdoors to the forefront.

One of the top tropical design elements is the use of oversized foliage. Banana leaves and palms are naturally large and their distinctive shapes make for dramatic accents.

An arrangement of fresh tropical flowers on the outdoor dining or coffee table will help to enhance the feel of the space. A tropical floral arrangement is a fantastic choice for the patio, simply because they readily adapt to warmer temperatures and their blooms add vibrant colours to the space. For this, turn to flowers such as dendrobium orchids, anthuriums, gingers, birds of paradise, and cut tropical leaves. All of them bring colour, shape, and unique architectural form into your home.

Bathroom Décor

When you think Zen, you might think of calming, meditative, harmonious environments that let you quiet your minds and rejuvenate your bodies. The bathroom is the perfect place for Zen-inspired décor, especially if you plan to enjoy a soaking tub.

Bamboo sticks and plants are often used in Zen spaces as decorations. Bamboo offers an infinite amount of decor possibilities for your bathroom. A Lucky bamboo plant will do well in the bathroom because it is one of the best plants for low light environments. It does not require soil so it is easy to care. It’s also a great way to add feng shui to your home design and décor.

Bedroom Décor

Out of every space in a home, your bedroom is without a doubt the most personal. The bedroom is where you go for rest and relaxation. Even though it’s an area many of your guests may never actually see, it equally deserves a great deal of attention. Your bedside table can be a lot more than just a place to rest your phone, alarm clock or a pile of unread books. It is easily beautified with fresh blooms. The most popular are roses, as they produce a wonderful option for bedrooms.

The variety of colours available for fresh-cut roses makes finding your favorite colour easy. Don’t match your floral arrangements to your interiors, but complement them instead. You can also add a punch of colour to an interior or softness to a vibrant room.

Let the interior dictate the arrangement. For more traditional interiors, go for fuller, denser arrangements. For more modern and contemporary interiors, a less dense arrangement with a sculptural design is best.

Whether it is just a stem or a whole bunch, fresh roses provide a nice organic touch to the bedroom.

Regardless of your style, flowers are the perfect addition to any room in any home. From fresh-cut to natural plants, your choices are endless.
