St Thomas mother of two wins CB PAN Champion 2019 title
Kerisa Wright, a mother of two young girls, is the 2019 CB PAN Champion that was held in St Ann on Sunday. Wright won from a field of 27 other pan chicken men and women from across Jamaica.
“I am
feeling great, excited and thankful,” said Wright, who will open her own
restaurant next month.
The Springfield, St Thomas, resident entered the CB Foods hosted PAN 2017 and finished in second place for her parish. She didn’t secure a placement at the Grand Finals that year. Two years later, she went back to the drawing board and re-worked her formula, to secure victory.
“I went back
to the drawing board and did it. I just did something totally different and it
worked,” Wright explained.
Wright won a
combined prize package valued at more than $1 million, including $150,000 from
the JN Group, $350,000 from CB Foods, one year supply of National hardo bread, one
year supply of Miracle Ketchup and one year supply of CB Chicken, plus prizes
from Walkerswood, Nupak, Red Stripe and Tru Juice.
Finishing in
second place was Denton Gordon from St Ann, while Jody Ann Huie from Clarendon
took third place.
Now in its 15th year, PAN is a signature event on the culinary calendar.
As the event came to a close on Sunday, Nicole Hall, assistant brand manager for CB Foods, said that she was pleased with this year’s staging of PAN.
“It has been
an amazing season. We’ve gotten so much love from Portland and St Elizabeth and
now in St Ann, which is the new home for our finals next year. I’m so
happy and excited that everyone has welcomed us into the parish,” she said.
“We had
great weather. The grass couldn’t have been any greener, and the venue is just
set up for an event like this. Thanks to Main Event. They did an awesome job
with the execution.”
In the
Miracle sauce competition, Huie took first place and won $25,000, while Denroy
Bloomfield from St Catherine finished second, taking home $15,000. Third
place went to Hanover’s Charmaine Pryce who won $10,000.
Held at Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in St Ann, the event attracted a decent crowd, which enjoyed performances from Jamaican entertainers Agent Sasco and Tarrus Riley. Dufton ‘Duffy’ Shepherd and Miss Kitty hosted the event.
