Sasco, Tarrus delight PAN final
Agent Sasco and Tarrus Riley delivered exciting sets at the grand final of PAN 2019, held on the lawns of Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in St Ann last Sunday.
“We just want to give people music. The people love we, so it’s all about sharing the music and creating good vibes,” Riley told the Jamaica Observer.
“My music comes from the heart and soul, and I represent the people. I’m singing songs that people can relate to,” he continued.
Riley’s set included Stay With You, She’s Royal, Human Nature and Lion Paw.
Agent Sasco, in his set, paid tribute to Capleton and Wayne Wonder. His popular songs were also well-received and included Step Pon Dem, Hands Inna Di Air and Guide and Protect.
“This is a family event, and it’s my second time performing and it was great. We had half-hour to work with so we just tried to mix it up with some of the songs from the early years as Assassin to Sasco — just mixing the music, reggae and dancehall,” he told the Observer.
Reggae artiste Zagga also performed.
PAN 2019, hosted by CB Foods, recognises the talents of the pan chicken men and women across Jamaica.
Sunday’s ativities included a Push Up competition and various onstage games, which included prizes from Miracle, National Baking Company, JN Group, Monster Milk, Walkerswood, Tru-Juice and NuPak.
Hosts Miss Kitty and Dufton “Duffy” Shepherd kept the vibes flowing throughout the proceedings. Selector DJ Nico Bam Bam kept the crowd entertained with popular songs.
Dillon Garrick of Golden Grove in St Ann is a regular patron at PAN events. He was the winner of a case of Red Stripe beer after coming out on top in the Push Up competition.
“I decided to enter because I try to be at all the PAN events and enjoy the vibes. It is something that me and my friends enjoy doing,” said Garrick.
As the day wound down and the cool evening breeze replaced the blazing sun, the winners of the PAN 2019 Grand Final were announced.
In first place was St Thomas resident Kerisa Wright, while St Ann’s Denton Gordon finished in second place. Third place went to Clarendon resident Jodi-Ann Huie.
In the Miracle sauce competition Huie was first, while St Catherine resident Denroy Bloomfield took second place. Charmaine Pryce from Hanover was third.
Nicole Hall, assistant brand manager of CB Foods, reflected on this year’s three events, which included two regional rounds.
“It has been an amazing season. We have gotten so much love from Portland, St Elizabeth, and now St Ann. This was our first time hosting the grand final in St Ann and I’m so happy and excited that everyone welcomed us into their parish,” said Hall.
She continued: “We had great weather and the venue is just set up for an execution like this; it was seamless. Thanks to Main Event, they did an awesome job with the execution.”
The JN Group — through its brands JN Small Business Loan, JN Bank and JN Money — provided a combined cash prize of $300,000 to the top three winners. In a statement, the company expressed its appreciation for being part of PAN 2019.
“As an organisation dedicated to improving the lives of all Jamaicans, the Jamaica National Group has seen first-hand the impact of remittances, access to funding, as well as savings and investments on the establishment and maintenance of small businesses and job creation in families and communities across the island. We have seen lives being continuously improved as a result of entrepreneurship, which contributes significantly to our economy,” it read.
