Reggae Gone Grammy tunes in to win feature
As expected, the Fitznahum Williams-conditioned three-year-old bay filly Reggae Gone Grammy obliged as the 3-5 favourite in the $900,000 Flossie McNeil Memorial Cup feature at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Despite not racing for 119 days, Reggae Gone Grammy showed no ill effects as she scored by 1 ½ lengths in the Restricted Allowance event over six furlongs (1,200m), in a decent time of 1:13.3 backed with splits of 23.3 x 47.3.
It was smooth sailing for Reggae Gone Grammy as she was held neatly in second position by Dane Dawkins behind Mamacita (Reyan Lewis). Going into the half mile (800m) turn, Reggae Gone Grammy challenged Mamacita for the lead before taking up the running at the three-furlong marker.
With enough in the tank at the top of the lane, Reggae Gone Grammy motored her way to victory ahead of Livi’s Outrageous (Javaniel Patterson) and Outrageous (Roger Hewitt), Reggae Gone Grammy by Western Classic – Little Thunder.
Jockey Omar Walker and apprentice Reyan Lewis shared the riding honours with two winners each on the 11-race programme, while no trainer had more than one winner. Walker won aboard She’s A Hit for owner/trainer Louis Richards in the fourth race and Fearless Champion for trainer Wayne DaCosta in the fifth race.
Lewis’s winners were Phineas in the seventh race for trainer Randolph Scott and Prince Charles in the 10th race for trainer Anthony Nunes. Racing continues on Friday when the Diamond Mile weekend of racing kicks off. The fifth running of the Diamond Mile is set for Saturday, November 9.
