FX Trader 8-A-Side sparks excitement in Westmoreland
The Westmoreland Football Association FX Trader 8-A-Side Hotel 20:20 League kicked off last Thursday at Llandilo Sports Complex in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.
The launch saw presentations from sponsors GraceKennedy Money Services Ltd representatives Yolande Gyles-Levy, communications and sponsorship manager; and Sanjiv Badaloo, brand manager, FX Trader and Bill Express. A dress parade followed that saw winners Westmoreland Police Club, walking away with a $5,000 cash prize.
Gyles-Levy expressed her company’s delight at being involved with the competition.
“FX Trader is pleased to sponsor the Westmoreland Football Association’s Eight-A-Side Hotel Football League. The tourism industry plays a significant role in the foreign exchange supply chain and as such we are glad to do anything that helps in their development.
“We hope through this league competition the members of the industry will be able to have fun while being competitive,” she said.
Sponsors FX Trader will be giving away $15,000 to the fourth-place team, $30,000 to third place, $40,000 to second place, and $50,000 to the winners of the competition.
The competition, to be contested in two 20-minute halves, will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will run from October 31 to November 28. All games will be played at Llandilo Sports Complex during both day and night.
The first five games were played last Thursday, with Westmoreland Police swamping Sky Rockers 7-1, Clubville blanking Couples Swept Away 2-0, Westmoreland Football Association (WFA) winning their game 5-1 against Westmoreland Teachers, while the Westmoreland Hospital Service Strikers and the Fire Brigade played out a 0-0 draw. The final game of the day saw Beaches Resort blanking Tyre Warehouse 3-0.
Match day two is set for today and will see Sky Rockers vs Clubville, Westmoreland Police Club vs Tyre Warehouse, Westmoreland Fire Brigade vs Beaches, Westmoreland Teachers vs WHS Strikers, and Couples Swept Away vs WFA.
