How do we move forward if we stick to our archaic ways of doing things?

There was an uproar on social media over the weekend when the minister responsible for water, Pearnel Charles Jr, stated that they are looking into desalination as a means of increasing our water capacity. Several individuals expressed their apprehension, some without even knowing in detail the methods of desalination.

Now, I don’t see an issue with this if it will help to get water to more people. I endorse Pearnel Charles Jr’s move to modernise and diversify our antiquated water system. Is this not a good move for the Government to undertake?

Most of us are resistant to change. Why? We have got so used to big plans leading to big failures. We are afraid to venture into the unknown because we all can point to something that was proposed and then shut down for one reason or another.

As a country, we need to move in accordance with the technological times. We can’t lag behind if we want to progress. I see no harm in the minister looking into desalination as an innovative way to variegate our system while increasing our water capacity.

We need to be more open and welcoming to change. If the Government can find a cost-effective, energy-efficient, and environmentally-friendly way to pursue new desalination technologies that will improve our ailing water sector, then I am all for it.
