Five years ago, while working in a warehouse, singjay lASt CHAPtA suffered a life-changing injury. He sustained five ruptured discs in his back in an accident which confined him to a wheelchair for two years.

The 32-year-old artiste credits resilience and music for getting him through that challenging period. He returns to the recording scene with the song Green Light, produced by Kevin “Kedro” Scarlet.

“Mi start walking again about one year ago, mi nuh 100 (per cent) yet but mi still give thanks ’cause it’s been tough. Mi go through a lotta mental stress,” lASt CHAPtA told Splash.

Green Light, which features deejay Scentriic, is his first recording since the mishap. He launched his music career in 2009 with Loook Yaa , which was followed by songs like Low Har, a jab at men who prey on underage girls.

Journey Never Stop , another of lASt CHAPtA’s early songs, was also produced by Scarlet.

He was enjoying some career momentum when he suffered his debilitating injuries.

“It tough, mi tell yuh, bredda. Being in a wheelchair yuh think ’bout life, yuh children. There was times it get to mi, when yuh think ’bout not having a income…things like dat,” he said.

Born Christopher Ramsay in August Town, he grew up in the Rema section of Trench Town where he got into the music of Sizzla, his biggest influence.

While a student at Wolmer’s Boys’ School, his career choice was architecture, a profession he pursued at Quality Academics in Kingston. Lack of resources curtailed those ambitions which resulted in lASt CHAPtA turning to music.

Back on his feet again, he has found a mentor in veteran musician Sam Wisdom, who has not only provided personal counselling but taught him to play guitar. lASt CHAPtA says Green Light sums up his new lease on life.

“Mi want it expose mi, mi waan si more green light inna mi life, more progress. Mi a try keep mi mind clear an’ mek people know mi testimony,” he said.
