CATHERINE HALL, St James — Despite reaching their primary objectives of qualifying for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and promotion to Concacaf Nations League A with a perfect win record so far, there will be no easing up when the Reggae Boyz end their CONCACAF League B Group C first-round schedule against Guyana at the Montego Bay Sports Complex this evening, starting at 8:00 pm.

The game is ostensibly a top-of-the-group clash as the Reggae Boyz are ahead on 15 points from five games, with 20 goals for and none against, while Guyana are second with nine points, scoring 11 goals and conceding nine.

Jamaica had won their first- round game 4-0, with two goals apiece from Alvas Powell and Dever Orgill.

Boyz Head Coach Theodore Whitmore told the Jamaica Observer after a light session at the match venue yesterday, that while he plans to make some changes to the starting team from the one that beat Antigua/Barbuda at the Sir Vivian Richards stadium on Friday night by giving some players their debuts, “there will be no easing up in the intensity”.

Jamaica won the last match 2-0.

The Jamaicans, who returned to the island on Saturday afternoon directly into Montego Bay to prepare for today’s game, is expected to see as many members of the 23-man squad getting some action today.

“We have a squad that we can choose from, and while we will be making changes, we will also be seeking to strike a balance and no matter who we play, we must be professional and we will be going after the win and to keep our record perfect,” he said.

Who more said the aim to keep the order and to maintain the winning run “was stressed in the training session (this morning)”.

Whitmore says he intends to rest the likes of central defender Damion Lowe, who wore the captain’s arm band on Friday night, and veteran midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson. He hinted that local-based pair of Harbour View FC’s Ajeanie Talbott and Waterhouse FC’s Akeem Chambers, as well as USA-based Peter-Lee Vassell, who came on as a second-half substitute on Friday, could start.

Teenaged sensation Lamar Walker of Portmore United, who was also used a substitute on Friday, could also start today, but it was not certain whether veteran defender Adrian Mariappa would get his 50th cap, or if goalkeeper Amal Knight would get a third-straight start ahead of regular captain Andre Blake.

Despite running roughshod over their League B opponents so far, Whitmore is not satisfied with what he is seeing and says “there is lots of room for improvement”.

“I am some what satisfied with what we have done so far, but there are areas where we can improve, like our decision making in front of goal and in the midfield areas,” the coach said.
