Full throttle for Half Moon Jamaica’s 65th anniversary
Last Saturday Half Moon Chairman Guy Steuart III treated his special guests to an evening of reflection, reggae, and revelry as he celebrated the resort’s 65th anniversary. With much to be proud of, Steuart III gave attendees a taste of the top-notch service that had made the resort the recipient of numerous awards over the years. His local and international chefs went all-out with ice sculptures etched to perfection, a dessert bar with an array of sweet treats and hors d’oeuvres that kept guests going back for more.
With the lawn filled with guests, Steuart III took his place onstage to introduce a video message from former chairman of Half Moon Guy Steuart II, who said he was celebrating two momentous occasions, American professional baseball team Washington Nationals winning the World Series for the first time since 1924, and Half Moon celebrating its 65th birthday. “Sixty-five years is a long time in the life of a Caribbean hotel, particularly under the same ownership,” said Steuart II. “I want to thank Jamaica, its people, for welcoming us and supporting us during these years.”
“During this time the Half Moon has experienced wondrous times and nature at its worst. Hurricane, fire, and flood, but on each occasion, we have risen, rebuilt and bettered [ourself],” he continued. He credited the resort’s success to the staff, whom he referred to as “the team that makes the Half Moon successful”.
The celebratory vibe was amplified by a performance from Jamaican singer, songwriter, and leader of the reggae and ska band Toots and the Maytals, Frederick “Toots” Hibbert who had guests singing along for the duration of his set. Saturday Social shares highlights.
