The Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA), the apex national organisation for sport associations, continues to build capacity and strengthen the body of sport through its Stamina Seminar series, which is an educational and business forum designed to give its members and stakeholders a greater understanding of the science, technology and commerce of sport.

This week the JOA, in partnership with the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB), will be staging a three-day seminar, which will focus on kinesiology and anti-doping. The idea for the seminar was mooted by JOA President Christopher Samuda and Secretary General Ryan Foster and arose out of a meeting with IFBB officials at an overseas congress.

“The JOA is all about building solid relationships with our international partners and bringing our member federations and associations into this partnership for their benefit, while establishing Jamaica as a preferred seat for sport education and policymaking,” Samuda said.

The IFBB has expressed tremendous pleasure in partnering with the JOA and commended this initiative – the first in the Caribbean – to which it stated it is wholly committed.

Secretary general and CEO, Ryan Foster, gave an insight into the future.

“This is the first of many to come. We have started with the IFBB and will continue to motivate and energise our members with knowledge and technical expertise in empowering them. It is a mission that we intend to accomplish,” said Foster.

The seminar will be hosted by the JOA at its corporate office, Olympic Manor, where Professor Mauricio de Arruda Campos, distinguished professional, educator and expert, will deliver on many current subjects.

These include the principles of anatomy and physiology and their application to kinesiology and human movement, anthropometric and physiologic characteristics of the human body, the use of therapeutic exemption forms, the types of anti-doping rule violations and the rationale for prohibited list of substances and anti-doping test procedures with emphasis on the rights and obligations of athletes.
