Wow Wow searches for second win in SVL Triple Crown

The Gary Subratie-trained talented bay colt Wow Wow goes in search of win number two in the ultra-rich Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL)-sponsored Two-Year-Old Triple Crown series when he takes on rivals in the second-leg of the series – the 13th running of the $3.6 million Pick3 Super Challenge Trophy over seven furlongs (1,400m) at Caymanas Park today.

Having won the first-leg of the series — the Cash Pot “Only One For Me” Trophy on October 26, 2019 — Wow Wow remained eligible for the $1-million owners’ bonus if he can win all three races in the series with the third and final-leg being the SVL Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes to be run on Boxing Day, December 26, over one mile (1,600m).

If he wins all three races, he could become the first horse to win the owners’ bonus and the second horse in the history of the event to win all three races. Princess Popstar was the first horse to win all three races in 2013, but she wasn’t eligible for the $1 million owners’ bonus as she didn’t pass through the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) of Jamaica Yearling Sale.

To become eligible for the $1-million bonus and free entry to the first two races, horses must have either passed through, sold or unsold at the TOBA of Jamaica Yearling Sale or have been nominated by their owners to TOBA on/or before the TOBA Yearling Sale.

Wow Wow (Casual Trick–Sarah Barracuda) continues to be invincible in his age group. Wow Wow was flawless in victory in the first leg of the series, the Cash Pot “Only One For Me” Trophy last month, winning the six-furlong (1,200m) event by 8 ½ lengths in a quick 1:12.3.

He was then in another dominant performance as he ran an ‘A’ Class time of 1:04.4 for 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) on November 9 in the first race of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission/TOBA Racing series while recording his sixth-consecutive victory.

Wow Wow’s only loss came on debut on June 29 when he finished second to England’s Rose, a three-furlong (600m) straight event, but since then, the Michros-owned Wow Wow has been unstoppable. It should another walk in the park for the latter here.

The race is truly on for second place as a number of runners – Above and Beyond, Fearless Champion, Dejae’s Boy, Nipster, Money Monster, Rum With Me and Tomohawk – are all capable of filling that spot.

The Anthony Nunes-conditioned Above and Beyond, based on his last run, seems likely to finish second behind Wow Wow.

Above and Beyond finished second to Wow Wow in the first race of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission/TOBA Racing series by seven lengths. Above and Beyond was seen making strong headway in deep stretch and now with the distance increased and the red hot Dane Nelson in the saddle, she is the prime candidate for second place.

The Pick3 Super Challenge Trophy is position as the second-to-last event on the 10-race card with a post time of 4:35 pm. First race is at high noon.

Elsewhere on the programme, the top two horses in the country at present She’s A Maneater and Stranger Danger renew rivalry in what is expected to be an even closer battle in a Graded Stakes Pick-3 “Supreme” Trophy event.

The big two met for the first time on last in the recent Diamond Mile on November 9, with the brilliant five-year-old bay mare She’s A Maneater coming out on top. It is a different scenario on this occasion as the distance is reduced from one mile (1,600m) to 6 furlongs (1,200m) and the weights have swung around with She’s A Maneater carrying 57.0 kgs (126 lb) and Stranger Danger with 55.0 kgs (121 lb).

Many thought that Stranger Danger was not at his best in the Diamond Mile but truth to be told on that day he simply could not manage the onslaught of She’s A Maneater. However, he lost no merit in defeat and although facing She’s A Maneater again, Stranger Danger can turn the tables as the weights and distance are more in his favour here, plus he has looked sharper in his exercise gallops.

With the Diamond Mile win, She’s A Maneater had cemented her claim as the best horse, not only in training at present, but the best ever to grace the track at Caymanas Park. No horse in the annals of local horse racing has accomplished more than She’s A Maneater.

The Diamond Mile was expected to be the sternest task of her career as She’s A Maneater was up against Stranger Danger, but the brilliant mare was an easy winner in the end. Although Stranger Danger is better off at the handicaps and journey, She’s A Maneater is going to take a lot of beating and could become invisibly, the immortal of local horse racing.

Ones to watch:

Race 1) Mirabilis/Musketoon/Luana

Race 2) Let It Snow/Lion of Judah/Disturbin di Peace

Race 3) Adonis/Talented Tony K/Polly B

Race 4) Unknown Soldier/Out On A Limb/Riddim Up

Race 5) Lord Ashton/Harry’s Train/Kalahari

Race 6) Earn Your Stripes/Universal Boss/Trevor’s Choice

Race 7) She’s A Maneater/Stranger Danger/Lady Blue

Race 8) Bay Commander/Batidor de Mundo/Also Correct

Race 9) Wow Wow/Above and Beyond/Money Monster

Race 10) Graydon/Bruce Wayne/Saratoga Sight

She’s A Maneater is tipped to win the Pick3 “Supreme” Trophy.
