Wow Wow unstoppable in Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy feature

Wow Wow continues to prove invincible for his fellow juvenile counterparts with another superb victory, this time in 13th the running of the $3.6 million Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy feature over seven furlongs (1,400m) at Caymanas Park yesterday.

It was truly another domiant performance as Wow Wow ( Casual Trick–Sarah Barracuda), bred and owned by Michael Bernard, trained by Gary Subratie and ridden by Ameth Robles, destroyed rivals by five lengths and completed the distance in a new Stakes record of 1:24.4. The previous record was jointly owned by Therealstream and Princess Pospster at 1:25.1, with the Track record being 1:22.4 held by the mighty Eros.

With the victory, Wow Wow remained on course to win the Supreme Ventures Limited-sponsored Two-Year-Old Triple Crown series, having won the first-leg of the series — the Cash Pot Only One For Me Trophy on October 26, 2019. The third and final-leg of the series — the SVL Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes — will be run on Boxing Day, December 26, over one mile (1,600m).

If he wins all three races, Wow Wow could become the first horse to win the owners’ bonus and the second horse in the history of the event to win all three races. Princess Popstar was the first horse to win all three races in 2013, but she wasn’t eligible for the $1-million owners’ bonus as she didn’t pass through the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) of Jamaica Yearling Sale.

At the track yesterday, it was an even start for many of the runners with a couple bunched up vying for the early lead. However, as the runners settled leaving the five-furlong (1,000m) marker and heading towards the last half-mile (800m), the talented Wow Wow took full control of the race and began to draw away from the field with Nipster (Robert Hhalledeen) and Dejae’s Boy (Raddesh Roman) chasing.

Cruising entering the drive, Wow Wow turned on the pressure and sprinted away from rivals to win his seventh consecutive race. Fearless Champion (Omar Walker) came running on for second place with Nipster in third. Splits were 23.2 x 46.0 x 1:10.3.

It was the second winner on the 10-race card for Subratie as he had earlier saddled Bold Aflair (Christopher Mamdeen) in the sixth race.

Also with winners were trainers Steven Todd and Anthony Nunes, jockeys Dane Nelson and Anthony Thomas and apprentice Reyan Lewis.

Meanwhile, She’s A Maneater, the queen of local horse racing, once again proved that she is the immortal of racing at Caymanas Park after registering her seventh consecutive win in the $1.3-million Pick3 Supreme Trophy over six furlongs (1,200m).

Ridden by Omar Walker for owner Ian Kong and trainer Wayne DaCosta, She’s A Maneater ( Natural Selection–Ahwhofah) defeated stable companion Stranger Danger (Phillip Parchment) by an enterprising three lengths with long-time leader Exhilarate (Aaron Chatrie) in third.

She’s A Maneater ran the distance in a blistering 1:10.2 after splits of 22.3 x 45.1 for her 25th win of her 31-race career with a record earnings of over $47 million.

Racing continues on Friday.
