With quite the buzz of interest already generated on social media, Blue Star Diner finally opened its doors to the general public on Friday (Nov 29) at its super chic location in Maraval, Trinidad.

The restaurant, which is situated on Saddle Road, has its operations spearheaded by the dynamic culinary duo of Chef Devon Joseph and his wife, Robyn Ramkissoon-Joseph.

The pair, who are both graduates of the Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute, is thrilled to offer a new and exciting experience to the local culinary landscape, with a clear focus on superior food offerings and exceptional customer service.

Chef Joseph explained to BUZZ that a huge part of the vision for Blue Star Diner was ensuring that menu options were taken care of in-house. “As a team, we take pride in presenting a variety of dishes that we prepare from scratch in the kitchen. From the burger patties which our chefs prepare fresh each day, to the succulent “Frisky Brisket” that slow cooks for 5-hours, it was really important for us to put quality first and add a bit of a home to the experience,” he said.

He also explained that the official menu took months to finalize with the help of a supportive team, and that the restaurant will open 24-hours on Fridays and Saturdays.

 As for the inspiration behind the 60’s themed space, Mrs. Joseph said that it was a no-brainer. “It was never done this way before – we wanted to bring a fresh experience to T&T,” she said.

The menu names are as entertaining and memorable as you would imagine a classic black and white chequered 60’s-themed restaurant to be. Dishes that are sure to catch your eye include “My Nieces Are Driving Me Reeses” – a delightful milkshake that features peanut-flavoured Reese’s buttercups – to “Blue Star Has A Little Lamb”, which is a lamb burger made with a roasted garlic marmalade, minted aioli and topped with crispy eggplant and provolone cheese.

warp very reminiscent of “Saved By The Bell” glory days, with framed images of

Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Nina Simone perfectly hung directly opposite

a neon jukebox, which is bound to take social media by storm in the coming

weeks.

Nostalgia is the

order of the day at Blue Star Diner, and even the attentive, engaging and

well-informed wait staff gets in on the fun – they have all chosen nicknames

such as “Becky” and “Ginger” for their hospitality duties to create a sprightly

atmosphere while patrons heartily dine.

Instagram-worthy images aside, the food at Blue Star Diner will definitely have customers coming back for more – and often. The moist Buttermilk Fried Chicken and biscuits are paired with an in-house pineapple-pepper jelly sauce and give you a Southern classic with an injection of Caribbean love.

The slow-cooked BBQ brisket is the Trini comfort food that everyone deserves and, predictably so, will surely be a BUZZ-worthy hit with meat-loving customers.
