JoSE abroad vs yard
Dear Editor,
The Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) is like a brilliant child who is ill-mannered and unruly. Let’s call him “JoSE”.
You know him well. JoSE wins all the prizes at graduation (world’s best-performing stock market) and smiles gleamingly for the pictures (NASDAQ display in Times Square). Everyone marvels at his potential and can’t stop praising and talking about him.
But those close to JoSE know the truth. Once you get home with him you are confronted with the absolute nightmare he is to deal with.
You see, JoSE doesn’t communicate. He does what he wants, when he wants.
For instance, this week he upgraded his JTrader platform with new rules. He didn’t explain beforehand and when approached with consternation and appeals for clarity, JoSE nebulously said he would respond when he responds: We will publish the release soon…stay posted.
I’m told he’s done this before (previous glitchy upgrades to the system).
In the meantime, this frustrated trader’s order remained in a “pending cancellation” state all week and, after a number of calls and e-mail, the inquirer was made to understand that there were several more like hers in the queue.
Hopefully, JoSE can improve his communication skills and excel in both performance and functionality. Especially since we are all invested in his future.
