Lauren London honours late boyfriend Nipsey Hussle in new Puma ad
Actress Lauren London has honoured her late boyfriend Nipsey Hussle in a heart-tugging video for her new ‘Forever Stronger’ PUMA campaign.
Released on Tuesday, the visuals see 35-year-old London revisiting Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard in South Los Angeles where the rapper was raised and spent his life redeveloping.
Crenshaw Boulevard was also the home of Hussle’s Marathon clothing store, where he was shot on March 31, 2019. He was 33.
‘The body hurts’
The video was conceptualised by London, who recites a poem written by Hussle’s sister, Samantha Smith.
“Pain is the light, pain is insight. The body hurts, but the spirit grows,” says London. “The flesh is starving while wisdom overflows. I got a question only Lord knows: Does life birth us twice?”
The clip features several murals of the late
rapper and highlights London’s memorial tattoo of Hussle on the inside of her
right forearm.
The visuals culminate with London standing on the same palm-filled street where she and Hussle shot their GQ ‘California Love’ photoshoot that was published in February.
Next chapter
London started dating Hussle in 2013, and the
two share a three-year-old son, Kross.
“Lauren London is proud to join forces with PUMA to support her on this next chapter of her journey,” the video’s YouTube description reads.
“This piece was a creative vision Lauren wanted to bring to life to signify the continuation of her marathon alongside PUMA. Forever Stronger.”
Grammy nomination
The video has attracted close to 900,000 views since its debut, however, no release date has been announced for the PUMA x Lauren London’s Forever Stronger collection.
Given name Ermias Asghedom, Hussle was also a PUMA ambassador before his death. He is remembered for his philanthropic efforts in his community and thought-proving projects like his 2018 album Victory Lap, which was Grammy-nominated for best rap album. He enters the 2020 Grammy ring with three posthumous nods, including best rap performance for Racks in the Middle, which is also nominated for best rap song.
