Camperdown, KC ahead in ISSA Southern Basketball Conference
DEFENDING champions Camperdown High, as well as Kingston College (KC) are the respective leaders of zones A and B in the points standings of the 2019 Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Southern Basketball Conference (SBC) High School Boys’ Under-19 competition as at the Christmas break.
Camperdown High lead Zone A with a perfect 24 points, after completing their 12 rounds of matches played in a home and away return format. Coached by Oneil Brown, Camperdown have also qualified for the quarter-finals stage.
KC, coached by Roger Marshall, topped Zone B after amassing 27 points from 14 games played, winning 13 and losing one. Their lone defeat was to Jamaica College (JC) 48-52 at JC, though they won the return leg 56-28 at KC to advance to the quarter-finals.
Old Harbour High, coached by Ricardo Edwards, finished second in Zone A with 22 points from 12 starts, winning 10 and losing two; St Catherine High ended third on 20 points from eight wins and four losses; former champions Calabar High have 17 points from 11 games with a game in hand, winning six and losing five; Ardenne High follow with 14 points from 11 matches, with three wins and eight defeats, though they have a game in hand; and Wolmer’s are on 11 points, following two wins and seven losses, including two forfeit fixtures. They have a game in hand, while Meadowbrook are also on 11 points after losing all games. They also have a game in hand.
Excelsior High, coached by Rohan Robinson, finished in second position in Zone B on 21 points from 13 games, winning eight and losing five. They have a game in hand. JC, coached by Dwight Cunningham, are third on 20 points after winning nine and losing two, with three games in hand.
All-Island national champions St George’s College, coached by Clifford Brown, finished fourth with 18 points, after seven wins and four losses, with three games in hand; St Jago High have 17 points, following six wins and five losses, including a forfeit fixture. They have two games in hand. Campion College are on 15 points from five wins and five losses, with four games in hand; Hydel High have 14 points after losing all 14 games; and St Andrew Technical High School have 10 points after one win and eight losses.
The competition will resume next month with the remaining preliminary round games.
At the end of the preliminary round the top four teams from both zones will advance into the quarter-final knockout stage.
