There are certain people for whom love is a fairy tale, and Vows loves hearing those stories. Jamaican race car driver and Guinness World Record holder Natasha Chang and real estate broker Chad Commers, a Minnesota native, are two such people. On Saturday, February 8, the couple who reside in Naples, Florida, said “I do” in front of friends and family at Eight Rivers, Prospect, in a ceremony that was, in a word, enchanting.

The bride and groom met at a barbecue hosted by Jason and Brooke Mitchell, who, fun fact: were in the wedding party. Sharing with Vows, Commers noted that upon seeing Chang, he asked his host, “Why can’t I find a girl like that?” Chang stated that when she was told Commers was interested, her response was an enthusiastic “Hell, yeah!” And, as the famous aphorism says, the rest was history. Commers said he knew that a Jamaican wedding was a “foregone conclusion” because of how connected his bride is to her culture. Hence, the wedding hashtag #JamaicaMeACommers.

The arbour (aka wedding arch) faced the Caribbean Sea, and it would take a stunning bride to compete with that view. Chang was that kind of bride. Wedding planner Kimberly Wong of I Do Islands kept things moving with military precision. The invitation said 3:30 pm, and on the dot, the announcement for guests to take their seats was made. What island time?

The bridal party made its way down the steps to violinist Caitlin Pequignot playing Never Enough by Loren Allred.

It was fitting that the bride made her selection from the Once in The Palace collection of bridal couture label Milla Nova. She was effortlessly regal and exuded fairy-tale princess. Her 6’2” Prince Charming opted for a monochromatic look — a well-tailored Tom James navy suit teamed with a cornflower blue shirt and an azure tie.

Under the guidance of officiant Adam Carney, the couple said vows they each wrote. Commers noted that each day he watches in amazement as Chang captivates and excites those around her, inspiring them to be better versions of themselves. Chang shared that she never thought she’d love someone as much as she does Commers. She vowed to be his “partner in parenthood, ally in conflict, greatest fan, and toughest adversary”.

Following post-ceremony cocktails guests — who travelled from Washington, DC; Scotland; Toronto; Puerto Rico; Minnesota; England; Florida; and Kingston — were shuttled to the reception held at Frankfort Villa adjacent to Eight Rivers. Sidebar: New Levels did an exceptional job with the bridal flowers and décor, guests couldn’t help but exclaim. For the reception, the bride switched into another MillaNova dress, this time a figure-flattering lace number. Guests enjoyed a three-course meal prepared by Christina Simonitsch and an open bar operated by a friendly team from Top Shelf Bar Service. The semi-naked chocolate wedding cake was created by Until We Eat Again chef Rebecca Karram, and decorated with lush leaves, wispy greenery, full pink roses, and gold leaves.

After dinner, guests waved sparklers as they witnessed the couple enjoy their first dance as husband and wife. Though public, it was an intimate moment, and as the groom stared into his bride’s eyes, Vows couldn’t help but think of the words to Perfect by Ed Sheeran. “Baby, I’m dancing in the dark, with you between my arms/Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favourite song/When I saw you in that dress, looking so beautiful/I don’t deserve this, darling, you look perfect tonight.”
