M1llionz asks Y Pree
Jamaica has been the location for high-profile music videos including I Was A King by Eddie Murphy, Turn Me On by Kevin Lyttle, Donnell Jones’ Put Me Down, Love Me Now by Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill’s Turn Your Lights Down Low.
Y Pree by British artiste M1llionz is the latest video by an overseas act shot in reggae land. Produced by Hargo & Abzy, the song was released on April 16.
“The song is called Y Pree so Jamaica is the only location it could have been filmed. Any other country wouldn’t have made sense,” said M1llionz.
Directed by Chauffer, the video was filmed in Montego Bay, Kingston and Ocho Rios over six days.
M1llionz does drill music, which is similar to trap, a sound that originated in south Chicago a decade ago. He plans to mix his style with dancehall to make an impact in Jamaica where he has roots.
“Since the start of the year, I decided to take music on a professional level. I think that mixed with dancehall would produce something ridiculous, because both genres are quite similar in some ways,” he explained.
The Birmingham-bred M1llionz’ first songs, North West and No Rap Cap, were released last year.
