Cover Girl! Jamaican-Canadian model Winnie Harlow stuns in ELLE Nederland
Jamaican-Canadian fashion model Winnie Harlow has landed the cover of ELLE Nederland!
Harlow, who rose to prominence on America’s Next Top Model in 2014, graces the cover of ELLE Nederland and talks about her rise to fame, working with international designer Tommy Hilfiger and maintaining a balanced life in the June edition out now.
The issue is dedicated to mental wellness and sees Harlow addressing the lack of diversity in the industry when she began. “When I started out as a model, I didn’t see much diversity, so I didn’t think it was possible for me to become a model,” she told ELLE Nederland.
“It
is so important to me that diversity is not seen as a “trend” but as a true
reflection of the industry from now on. Every season gets better, which is
great, of course, but there’s still so much work to be done before fashion is
truly inclusive. For example, I would like to see more diversity behind
the scenes – more hair stylists, make-up artists and photographers, for
example.”
Regarding
being a role model, Harlow said “it’s a lot of pressure you put on someone.”
She
continued, “But at the same time it all depends on whether you take that
pressure on you. I’ve said it before; the reason I don’t believe in
role models is because we are all human, right?
“I don’t think anyone should be put on apedestal because we all make mistakes. If someone wants to see me as arole model, it is up to that person. But I understand that I am an“inspiration” for many people. That’s okay.’”
Harlow
was styled by Hilfiger for the shoot and shot by photographer to the stars,
Pablo Delfos.
