Toona Ciliata back on track!

Fancied to capture The Viceroy Trophy

The Viceroy, the outstanding 1989 Triple Crown winner at Caymanas Park, will be remembered tomorrow with the running of the race named in his honour.

The Viceroy Trophy, a three-year-old Open Allowance/Graded Stakes event, will be contested for over one mile (1,600m) for a purse of $1.5 million. A small field of six runners has been declared.

1. SUPREME SOUL: (4 ch c by Soul Warrior – Beware Baby) – Ran a very good race on last only to be narrowly beaten by the super-fit Sentient in the Chairman’s Trophy over seven furlongs (1,400m) on September 26. Supreme Soul is going to love this extended trip and could turn the tables on his conquer here and complete the exacta for this barn.

2. TOONA CILIATA: (4 ch c by Soul Warrior – Red Gold) – Without a doubt the best horse in training in the land at present. Toona Ciliata lost no mark in defeat on last to Sentient and company in the Chairman’s Trophy. Then he carried 59.0kgs (130lb) and the weight took a toll and he finished in fifth place in the end. It was the second time this season that Toona Ciliata carried 59.0kgs as he ran with that weight on July 11 over six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300), a distance a bit too short for him but was able to defeat Princess Charles by a length and a half in 1:19.2 minutes. Despite again being pitted with top weight of 57.0kgs (126lb), Toona Ciliata should also be at home at this distance, and with the bustling Dane Nelson in the saddle should earn another win. Toona Ciliata can either go in front and make every post a winning or come from behind and sprint away from rivals. It doesn’t matter which he chooses, the result should be the same, a Toona Ciliata victory.

3. SUMMER SUN (USA): (4 ch c by Afleet Alex – A Love Theme) – A winner on last who is going to find repeating not on the cards.

4. SIR ALTON (USA): (3 dkb c by Giant Surprise – Jadam) – Was stopped in his tracks on last by Sentient on October 10 in a six-furlong event. Sir Alton came into that race on the backend of three-consecutive wins all in fast times with two Stakes record run and was expected to run well and so he did. He was probably not as ready as one thought he would be to contest Open Allowance company, but he should have benefited from that outing and although not expected to win here, Sir Alton is going to give his best and could earn him a place in the board.

5. SENTIENT: (4 ch by Strikeitwhileitshot – Lady Geetadeao) – Completed his third-consecutive win when running over six furlongs (1,200m), a distance considered short of his best on October 10. He came from far behind to beat rivals by two-and-a-half lengths going away in a time of 1:11.3 minutes. Prior to that, Sentient defeated the top-rated horse in training, Toona Ciliata, over seven furlongs on September 26. That day, Sentient carried 52.0kgs (115lb) to Toona Ciliata‘s 59.0kgs (130lb). Now risen in the scales to 55.0kgs (121lb) and Toona Ciliata having 57 lb (126lb), Sentient is going to have it hard repeating and his best hope is for second place.

6. UNIVERSAL BOSS: (4 b g by Casual Trick – Electrifying) – Not doing badly in his recent races but at this distance and against these horses, Universal Boss has no chance.
