ANGELS, St Catherine — St Jago High’s Shantae Foreman won the girls Class One long/high jump double on Saturday as she opened her 2021 season at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) Qualifying Trials at GC Foster.

Foreman, who is expected to be part of the Jamaican team to the World Athletics Under-20 Championships, if the event is held as scheduled in Nairobi, Kenya in August, was part of a St Jago team that swept the girls’ long jump and won two of four high jumps that were contested.

Meanwhile, Edwin Allen High swept the girls’ 800m and 1500m titles, while Jamaica College won all three boys’ 1500m races.

The 18-year-old Foreman cleared 1.70m on her third try after passing the previous four heights and then retired after missing her first attempt at 1.75m.

Manchester High’s Sheree Wright, Edwin Allen’s Ahshareah Enoe and St Jago’s Damiel Hinds all cleared 160m.

Foreman won the long jump with a best of 5.54m (-1.8m/s) as each jumper got just three attempts,while Vere Technical’s Amanda Thrue was next on 5.36m (-1.1m/s) and Vashti Grey of The Queen’s School was third with 5.24m (0.1m/s).

St Jago’s Kay-Lagay Clarke won the Class Two long jump with 5.51m (-0.9m/s), beating St Elizabeth Technical’s Richelle Stanley with 5.10m (-1.4m/s) and Excelsior High’s Chenessa Davis on 5.08m (-0.5m/s).

The Class Three event went to Jade-Ann Dawkins with her lone legal mark of 4.99m (-1.7m/s), ahead of her teammate Bryana Davidson’s 4.78m (-1.5m/s) and Holmwood Technical’s Julissia Knight’s 4.62m (-1.9m/s).

STETHS’ Stanley won the Class Two high jump with 1.60m ahead of Excelsior’s Davis and Holmwood Technical’s pair of Brishawn Grant and Shakala Henry on countback.

Edwin Allen’s Deijanae Bruce took the Class Three high jump with 1.65m, ahead of Vere Technical’s Chloe Palmer and St Jago’s Tori-Ann Anderson both with 1.55m.

The Cornwall College pair of Lansford Cunningham with 6.71m (-3.1m/s) and Jordae Wilson’s 6.41m (-2.1m/s) finished first and second in the Class One boys’ long jump with St Jago’s Tiki Butler third with 6.14m (-2.1m/s).

St Jago High jumpers swept the top three places in the boys’ Class Two long jump with Balvin Israel winning with 7.26m (-1.4m/s), followed by Demario Prince’s 6.40m (-2.4m/s) and Jevaughn Samuels’ 6.27m (-2.6m/s).

Demario Brown of St Jago won the Class Three long jump with 5.57m (-1.9m/s) ahead of BB Coke’s Anthony Hall’s 5.24m (-1.2m/s) and Jonathan Grant’s Michael Neil’s 4.37m (-2.3m/s).

Nishorn Pierre of Jamaica College won the Class One boys’ high jump with 2.05m, beating his teammate Javon Bowen on 1.95m and Kingston College’s Vrro Sam’s 1.95m.

St Jago’s Prince won the Class Two high jump, clearing 1.80m and clearing all five heights on the first attempt; Titchfield High’s Jaydon Parkes was second, also with 1.80m, but cleared the last height on his second attempt as St Jago’s Omarion Walford, who passed on the first height, took three tries to get over 1.80m.
