16 y-o, 39 y-o bartender killed in Hanover shooting
HANOVER, Jamaica — A 16-year-old is among two people who were fatally shot, and two others injured during a shooting incident at a bar in Logwood, Hanover this morning.
The other fatality has been identified as 39-year-old Kevaughn Roosevelt also known as Frankow, who is the operator of the bar. The 16-year-old was indentified as Radray Martinez, of an Orange Bay address.
Reports from the police are that they were alerted to the incident at around 11:00 am.
The police said that on arrival they found Roosevelt dead in the bar. They were later informed that three other people were injured and were rushed to the hospital. The police said the doctor on duty confirmed the death of Martinez.
The remaining two are receiving treatment for non-threatening gunshot wounds.
According to the Superintendent of Police in charge of the Hanover Police Division, Sharon Beeput, the incident has left tension in the area and a joint military/police patrol is currently on the ground.
Meanwhile, Sonia Watson, the mother of Roosevelt said it was less than two hours before the incident that she spoke with her son.
“After nine this morning mi deh a work and mi talk to him pan di phone and mi Tel him seh after mi lunchtime mi a go come check him and him seh him out by the shop. So, after mi tek mi lunch time no and come out pan di road deh look drive one taxi man stop and tell mi seh him dead,” stated Watson.
Watson said her son was a nice and jovial person who would stay at his shop and cook. The mother further said she is not aware of her son being involved in wrongdoing.
Pansy Smith, an elderly woman said she knew Kevaughn well from when he was a child.
“We get along so well. Anywhere I am and Frankow see mi, him always stop and seh aunty where yuh a go and him would stop and carry mi load for mi,” expressed Smith, who broke down in tears, adding that “anything him have him would seh aunty come, hold this.”
