PNP senator congratulates Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw on Manchester City deal
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition Spokesperson on Youth and Sports, Senator Gabriela Morris has issued congratulations to Jamaican footballer Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, who has agreed to a three-year deal with English club, Manchester City.
In her statement Senator Morris said, “We are immensely proud of Khadija and her triumph on the international scene. At only 24, she has made tremendous contributions to Jamaican Sports and is a true embodiment of tenacity! We wish her all the best as she embarks on this new journey”.
Shaw holds the record for all-time leading goal scorer in Jamaica, for both men and women, with 42 goals in 30 starts.
Recently, she copped The Golden Boot Award, which recognised her as the top goal scorer for the 2020-21 season of The French Women’s First Division where she scored 22 goals for Bordeaux FC.
Morris went on to commend Shaw for her sterling representation at the national level. “Khadija has represented Jamaica at all levels in the Football fraternity and was a part of the history making Jamaican team that qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
The senator further noted that Shaw is an example of women excelling in Sports where males traditionally live in the spotlight.
“It is critical that we increase support for women teams. Financial support as well as a sustainable funding model is critical to the advancement of Women’s football and we must as a country continue to invest in the natural sporting prowess that lies in our people,” she said.
