KINGSTON, Jamaica — The High Commission of Canada in Jamaica is providing an increased funding of more than $20 million (CAD 170,000) as part of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) programme and is inviting organisations to submit proposals.

The new 2021 call for proposals, which closes on June 18, seeks projects that address any of the following thematic priorities:

– gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

– peace and security, with a focus on conflict prevention and building peace.

– environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as on water management.

The high commission said while all projects must align with these thematic priorities, priority will be given to projects that respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and which focuses on improving Jamaica’s ability to prevent, respond and mitigate the impact of COVID-19 at the community level.

“With the increased allocation we will be able to support more projects and create greater impact across the country. Our work through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives will continue to build on the support started last year to the national and local response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said High Commissioner of Canada to Jamaica Emina Tudakovic at a recent virtual showcase and information session held for current grantees and interested applicants.

The funding will allow recipient organisations to launch new projects or scale up past projects. The call for proposals was launched on May 25.
