CALIFORNIA-based producer Minto Play Da Riddim is pleased with the success of his most recent production by dancehall deejay Skillibeng.

“The feedback from Sloppy has been sublime and outstanding, as the females are going crazy with the sloppy challenge that has been going on and the song [is] racking up views on his YouTube Vevo channel. Everyone talking about the song,” said the producer whose given name Pierre Minto.

The track was released last month under the producer’s Minto Play Da Riddim imprint.

The producer hopes that the momentum of the song will continue.

“I hope that Sloppy will continue to have that international presence and to hit [the] Billboard top 100,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Not their first collaboration, the producer has worked with Skillibeng before on the track Run.

The 35-year-old Kingston College and Munro College past student launched his label in 2013.

Since then he has produced multiple hits for top Jamaican acts, including Vybz Kartel’s Run Dancehall, Jahvillani’s Miraculous, Safaree’s Tek Off and Popcaan’s Party Business. One of his recent projects includes 2025 with Charly Black.

Minto Play Da Riddim added that he will continue to collaborate with Skillibeng.

“Right now, Skillibeng is the face of dancehall so it was only right to work with him again,” he said.

Last month the deejay made headlines by being the first Jamaican act to chart a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in four years. A remix of his 2020 hit Crocodile Teeth, featuring rapper Nicki Minaj, debuted at 100 on the charts.

Prior to Skillibeng, the last Jamaican to appear on the chart was Sean Paul. He was featured on Enrique Iglesias’s Subeme La Radio which peaked at 81, spending nine weeks on the chart in April 2017.

Originally from St Mary, Minto Play Da Riddim — who says he normally spends one or two days creating a rhythm — explained why he stands out in the industry.

“I’m unique because of the sounds I use, the style of my beats and melody I choose,” he shared.
