Dexter Lee among qualifiers for 100m at national trials

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former two time World Under 20 100m champions and World Championships relay gold medallist Dexter Lee was among the seven qualifiers from Thursday morning’s qualifying round of the men’s 100m at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) National Senior Trials at the national stadium.

Lee who was the first Jamaican man to win a global gold medal in the 100m when he won the World Under 18 title in the Czech Republic in 2007, won his heat in 10.66 seconds (-1.9m/s) and advanced to the quarter-finals later Thursday.

Javoy Tucker of MVP TC led the qualifiers with 10.59 seconds (-0.4m/s) followed by Ashanie Smith of Racers TC- 10.60 seconds (-1.3m/s), Kimarlie Stewart of Cameron Blazers- 10.61 seconds (-1.1m/s) and Mazinho Barrett of UWI-Mona- 10.65 seconds (-0.4m/s).

Former Meadowbrook High runner Shakur Williams who just completed his first season at the University of Albany, ran 10.67 seconds (-1.1m/s) and Michael Sharp of G C Foster College- 10.70 seconds (-1.3m/s) advanced just edging former Calabar High ISSA Champs gold medallist Tyreke Wilson of Legacy Athletics who also ran 10.70 seconds (-1.3m/s).
