Sandals Montego Bay staff gets free eye screening
STAFF at Sandals Montego Bay on Monday received pre-screening and eye testing at a health clinic staged by the resort in collaboration with Professional Eye Care.
The effort was part of Professional Eye Care’s outreach programme dubbed ‘Mission of Sight’.
According to Sandals Montego Bay Human Resources Manager Tracie Shortridge, with the advent of the novel coronavirus pandemic, some team members had been unable to receive eye care treatment and the resort decided to bring the health professionals to the hotel to facilitate their needs.
“It is very much the Sandals way of trying to make things as easy as possible to our valuable team members during this pandemic,” said Shortridge. “And, this is an effort we plan to continue into the foreseeable future.”
“The response was very positive, and a high number of team members came out and had their eyes checked as well as source eyeglasses, while allowing for protocols to be maintained,” added the human resources manager.
General Manager of Sandals Montego Bay Carl Beviere said that the series of health clinics were part of the hotel’s continuing drive to assist team members during the pandemic.
“Apart from helping with care packages, staging welcome breakfasts, awards, and life skills seminars, managers here have an open-door policy, where team members are encouraged to share whatever concerns they may have,” said Beviere.
He also pointed to Sandals Montego Bay’s staging of a series of seminars which were aimed at preparing managers to meet the rigours of the COVID-19-era workplace, focusing on not just the technical competence of its managers, but their physical and mental fortitude as well.
Watersports attendant at Sandals Montego Bay, Leon Hall, praised the resort for assisting the team members and said that the eye clinic was very timely and appreciated. “It was very informative and the optical team was very thoughtful and made us feel very comfortable.”
Patricia Stone, sales and marketing executive for Professional Eye Care in Montego Bay, said her company was pleased to be working in collaboration with the Sandals team as part of its outreach effort.
