Wedding Beauty — From the Experts
Kimberly Patterson, make-upartist, Kimberly PattersonBeautyA bride should start with anearly skincare routine leadingup to the wedding day. Thisshould be accompanied bydrinking lots of water so thatthe skin will be radiant andsupple for the big day. Anothertip is to do a wedding make-uptrial so that you'll feel confidentand happy in the knowledgethat the look you are wearingis right for you and is going tolast! Finally, aim for looking likeyourself! Focus on the most importantelements of your look, such as beautiful natural-lookingskin, softly groomed brows, and feathery lashes. It's best toavoid statement looks and optfor something more classic.

Wedding Beauty — From the Experts

Your wedding day will likely be one of the most photographed days of your adult life. Naturally you want to look perfect, from glowing fresh-faced make-up to tresses that will stand the test of time (and the day).

When it comes to wedding day beauty, we can never get enough advice. Last week I discussed your wedding day timeline; today some of the island’s wedding beauty experts give us their best hair and make-up tips and tricks for the big day.

I asked these ladies, “Based on your professional experience, what are the top tips for brides when it comes to bridal beauty for their wedding day?”

Lisa McIntosh, hairstylist,House of NeahLisHaving worked in the industryfor many years there are a fewspecific tips I think every brideshould take into considerationwhen preparing her hair for thebeauty aspect of her special day. Here are a few of my top choices:1. Buy a silk pillow case: Silkpillowcases are the answer toattaining smooth and frizz-freehair!2. Drink lots of water and eatfoods rich in protein.3. Use a leave-in conditioner! Most brides grow their hairout for their special day. If thatsounds like you, you may bestretching out your haircuts fortoo long, so make up for it witha good leave-in conditioner thatprotects the ends of your hair. And lastly, your hair shouldn’tbe competing with your dress,it should complement it in thebest way possible. If your dressis simple, it’s safe to go with amore dramatic hairstyle. If yourdress is an extravagant ballgown, for example, considera subtler yet elegant updo. Inessence, it’s best to choose ahairstyle that complements yourdress and personal style!
Nicole Keith, make-up artist,BrushedByNicoleBeautyBridal trial: You wouldn’t getmarried without a rehearsal ortry your dress on only once, andit should be the same foryour make-up. Manybrides think that atrial run is just a wayfor artists to try tomake more money. Inreality, it is a form ofinsurance for not onlythe bride but also themake-up artist.1. A trial is the perfectopportunity to get to know yourartist’s personality and their skilllevel, and to determine if theyare the right fit for you.2. As professionals, we willalways try to please the clientbut sometimes, the desired lookis not always possible dependingon your skin type or face shape.4. Wedding day schedulestend to be pretty tight, soknowing exactly what look isdesired and how long it takesto perform can save a lot ofvaluable time.Skincare: For delicate faceskin, you’ll want to startprepping months inadvance — mostexperts say sixmonths prior toyour wedding dayis a good place tostart. Starting yourregimen this far inadvance will give youthe chance to test differentproducts to see which oneswork the best for you. Startprepping six months in advance.Don’t poke or prod if a blemishappears, keep stress levels low,and you’ll have a wedding glow!Preparing the skin for yourwedding day might seem like adaunting task, but once you getinto a skin-saving routine, yourglow will make that routine hardto break long after you say yourvows.
Natalia Doswell Golding, hairstylist,Simply Beautiful JamaicaChoose the perfect weddinghairstylist to match your vision. When choosing the right weddinghairstyle you should do thefollowing:• Hair trials — just to ensurethat the hairstyle suits you andgoes well with your dress (youdon’t want to try a new style onthe day of your wedding)• Prepping hair prior to wedding— that includes washing, colour,sew-ins, wigs, etc.• Plan out hair accessories.• Start early, so you can haveenough time to relax.• Don’t set unrealisticexpectations.• Have fun on your weddingday, the day goes by quickly.
Sue Gregg, make-up artist, SueTheMakeupGirlLooking like the most beautiful bride really starts with feeling likethe most beautiful bride. My top tip is definitely to book an artistwhose aesthetic you really, really like. By doing this, you can trusttheir vision to enhance your beauty and not only your own guessbased on inspiration photos or routine. The results can be magical!
Heather Smith, make-up artist, InYour Face BeautyProper skincare: If you were neveron top of your skincare before, now isthe time. At the very least, a monthbefore your wedding start drinking lotsof water (the standard is a gallon aday). This really helps with clear skin).Wear your sunscreen, and moisturise.Speak with an aesthetician wherepossible. Do not try new products onyour skin in the month leading up toyour wedding. It takes a good 30 daysto see results on skin. Great skin is thefoundation of beautiful make-up.
Cadey Clark, hairstylist, LuxxBridal ConceptsI always recommend thatbrides choose a style thatspeak to their personality; don’tbecome too overwhelmedwith looking at every style onPinterest. Select five, then fromthe five reduce it to three whichwill help to determine what itis, exactly, she’d like in creatingher hairstyle for the day. Alsodrink plenty of water. That helpsboth skin and hair in beinghealthy. Get your hair treatedand trimmed often, as well. Irecommend everyone gets theirhair shampooed and dried theday before and not the day ofthe wedding. This will allowfor the stylist to prep and stylemore efficiently. Avoid usingexcessive oils on the hair.Do a trial if possible. Thiswill help in deciding if the styleis perfect for you or not, alsoit allows you to try other hairstyle options.
