Carifta GAMES: Jamaicans advance to 400m finals
KINGSTON, Jamaica — It was smooth sailing for Jamaicans in the 400 metres as they all advanced to their respective finals on Saturday’s first day of the 49th Carifta Games at the National Stadium in Kingston.
Delano Kennedy worked hard for 47.86 seconds to lead the Boys’ Under-20 section, while Shemar Palmer cruised to 48.49 seconds to win his section.
St Vincent’s Amal Glasgow at 47.89 seconds, Antoine Andrews of the Bahamas with 48.72 seconds and the Barbados pair of Ross Waldron with 48.64 seconds and Josiah Parris with 48.87 seconds also advanced.
Bermuda’s Caityn Bobb, the Under-17 winner in 2019 when the championships was last held, leads the Under-20 girls’ section after running 53.95 seconds followed by Guyana’s Hannah Reid at 55.02 seconds.
Jamaica’s Kaylia Kelly at 55.23 seconds and Oneika McAnuff, 54.19 seconds, are though along with the BVI pair of Kaelyaah Liburd with 55.62 seconds and Akrissa Eristee at 55.83 seconds.
Abigail Campbell with 56.15 seconds and Quana Walker at 5.43 seconds are the leaders in the Under-17 girls’ section, followed by Guyana’s Narissa McPherson with 56.83 seconds, Barbados’ Kadia Rock with 58.70 seconds and Trinidad and Tobago’s Jenna-Marie Thomas with 59.92 seconds.
The Jamaican pair of Marchino Rose at 49.22 seconds and Tajh-Marques White at 49.95 seconds, lead the Under-17 boys’ section, followed by two runners from the Bahamas, Zion Miller at 50.29 seconds and Berkley Munnings at 49.76 seconds.
