Duo keeping the beat alive
GROWING up in Portland, Jamaica, Drizzy Fade and Nazz Genna listened to the sounds of Agent Sasco and Sanchez, and yearned for an opportunity to emulate their musical heroes. Both artistes now live in Florida where they keep the dancehall beat alive with songs like I’m Living.
Recently released by 1Press Records, it is the duo’s first collaboration.
“It has a party trend to it because of the whole vibe around it. I’m a party person and promoter, and the song came about while Nazz Genna and myself were having a conversation about [how] we need to do music to uplift,” said Drizzy Fade.
He credits his sibling-type relationship with Nazz Genna for making I’m Living work. The single reflects their attitude to dancehall music.
“Yuh can hold a vibe and hold a joy to it,” said Drizzy Fade who has been recording since 2009. His previous songs include Money Bounce and Girl Next Door.
Nazz Genna has also been recording songs for some time but it was not until migrating to Florida and linking with Drizzy Fade that he experienced any career momentum.
“Mi meet mi bredda Drizzy Fade an’ him start record mi voice, an’ mi love di way how mi soun’ — an’ wi start get love from di people,” said Nazz Genna, whose solo songs include Hungry Days and Prodigal Son.
