Kings defeat Risers in Saturday’s T10 Blast

Surrey Kings won their third-straight game in the inaugural Dream 11 Jamaica T10 Blast after a 30-run triumph against Surrey Risers at Sabina Park on Saturday.

Scores: Kings 139-4 (10 overs); Risers 109-2 (10 overs)

Batting first in the opening game of the day’s double-header, the Kings made 139-4 from their allotted 10 overs with Jeavor Royal cracking 46 off 18 balls and Kennar Lewis adding 41.

Chasing a formidable total, the Risers gave it a mighty effort, but could only manage 109-2.

Sadique Henry and Delbert Gayle contributed unbeaten knocks of 58 and 40, respectively.

Andre Dennis snatched 2-15 for the Kings.

In the rain-affected second game at Sabina Park, Middlesex Titans defeated Middlesex United Stars by 18 runs under the Duckworth & Lewis method.

Scores: Titans 81-8 (10 overs); United Stars 41-7 (7 overs)

Sherdon Allen (36) top-scored in the relatively small total of 81-8 as left-arm pacer Andelle Gordon claimed 3-10.

The United Stars were 41-7 from seven overs, 18 runs behind the Duckworth & Lewis target.

In the early game at Sabina on Thursday, Surrey Kings drubbed Surrey Royals by eight wickets.

Scores: Royals 90-8 (10 overs); Kings 95-2 (5.1 overs)

Taking first strike, the Royals were lifted to 90-8 from their allotted 10 overs, mostly because of Javelle Glenn’s knock of 23 and Peat Salmon’s 20.

Andre Dennis and Oraine Williams took 1-12 and 1-14, respectively, for the Kings.

When the Kings batted they made light work of the target, speeding to 95-2 inside six overs.

Jermaine Blackwood made a 17-ball 46, while his opening partner Lewis made an unbeaten 27 from 14 deliveries. Salmon took 1-18 for the Royals.

In Thursday’s second game, West Indies Test opener John Campbell stole the spotlight for Middlesex United Stars in their big 68-run win over Surrey Risers.

Scores: United Stars 155-3 (10 overs); Risers 87-6 (10 overs)

Campbell smashed a 31-ball 82, inclusive of seven sixes and six fours, and Alwyn Williams blasted 45 from 18 balls in the United Stars score of 155-3.

Pacer Oshane Thomas grabbed 2-30 for the Risers.

From the start of their chase the Risers were never really in the hunt, with only Chadwick Walton (36) and Delbert Gayle (24) getting into double figures. They were restricted to 87-6 with Michael Thompson claiming 3-15.

In the early contest at Sabina on Friday, the United Stars were brought back to earth by a seven-wicket defeat to Cornwall Warriors.

Scores: United Stars 81-7 (10 overs); Warriors 87-3 (8.5 overs)

Sashane Anderson top-scored with 22 in the United Stars’ 81-7 against the Warriors’ spinner Michael Frew, who took 4-16.

Ockeeno Farquharson made 21 and Andre McCarthy added 17 not out in the Warriors’ 87-3. Left-armer Gordon took 2-11 for the United Stars.

In the Friday afternoon game, Surrey Royals beat Middlesex Titans by nine wickets.

Scores: Titans 92-7 (10 overs); Royals 98-1 (8.3 overs)

Jamie Merchant made a 15-ball 41 for the Titans, as Jamaica Scorpions fast bowler Nicholson Gordon claimed 3-21 for the Royals.

Opener Leroy Lugg and Nkrumah Bonner hammered unbeaten knocks of 50 and 46, respectively, as the Royals eased to victory at 98-1.
