Revving away at Dover Raceway’s return
EVEN though the dust has settled on Dover Raceway’s grand reopening after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, fans are still basking in the success of its return.
The Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto sought to get a reaction on the ground from several people who had witnessed circuit racing’s grand comeback.
Stephen Stewart, Kingston
“Firstly, seeing this was my first official trip to Dover, I didn’t know what to expect. Needless to say, as a motorsport enthusiast, I was not disappointed in the least. I’ve only been to drag racing events in which I’ve participated in a few, but my love has always been circuit racing. Words can’t explain the excitement seeing the Radicals up close and all the other classes fighting it out. Especially, the Improved Production 45 and Super Street classes.
Elation would be an understatement to describe how I felt that motorsport is finally back and that I could finally see these races up close and personal.”
Taniesha Moore, Ocho Rios
“The meet was a wonderful end to my birthday and Easter weekend. It was great to see my favourite drivers, including my top one, Doug Gore, in action and I even got to grab a picture with him and Tommi (Gore).”
Amanda Dyer, Kingston
“It’s very exciting. It’s been a long two years, everybody, including the Marshalling Club of Jamaica, are out, and we’re just ready to ensure that the competitors, fans have a safe and productive race meet. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. We have about five more race meets for the rest of the year and we know it’s going to be a packed calendar, but we just want everyone to come out and have fun.”
