166 new COVID cases in Jamaica, three deaths reported
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Ministry of Health and Wellness reported 166 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths on Sunday, May 8, bringing the infection total to 131,327 and total deaths to 2,980.
The new cases comprise 108 females and 58 males, with ages ranging from 20 days to 90 years.
The cases were recorded in Kingston and St Andrew (37), St James (36), St Ann (28), St Catherine (21), Westmoreland (10), Manchester (eight), St Elizabeth (eight), Trelawny (five), Clarendon (five), Hanover (three), St Mary (two), St Thomas (two) and Portland (one).
The deceased are a 94-year-old male and a 74-year-old female from St Catherine who died in March and October 2021, respectively; and a nine-year-old female from St Elizabeth who died in April 2022.
There were 117 recoveries in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 84,514.
Currently, 65 people are hospitalised, nine of whom are moderately ill and two critically ill.
Jamaica’s positivity rate for the latest round of testing was 18.5 per cent.
