UPDATE: NWC working to restore water supply as 2,000 workers strike
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Water Commission (NWC) has confirmed that industrial action by disgruntled employees has resulted in islandwide disruption of water supply to customers.
Employees gathered outside the company’s Marescaux Road head office on Tuesday to protest an outstanding reclassification exercise as well as the ongoing public sector compensation review.

Approximately 2,000 employees went on strike this morning. According to the NWC, the industrial action was taken without notice.
The utility company assured the public that it is working to maintain supply delivery while negotiating through the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service to resolve the matter.
However, NWC workers told OBSERVER ONLINE that piped water access across the island will not be returned until their demands are met.
The company says it will provide more updates to the public as it works to restore water supply in the shortest possible time.
