Greater Portmore top Central Primary Champs
GREATER Portmore amassed a combined total of 350 points to capture the 2022 Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) Central Primary Schools Athletics Championships that ended at the G C Foster College of Physical Education and Sport in Angels on Wednesday.
The win in the three-day championships was Greater Portmore’s first, and the second staging of the Central Champs that started in 2019, but which was not held in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Naggo Head Primary finished second in the overall point standings with 319.50 points, followed by former champions Spanish Town with 225 points, Angel’s Primary with 100 points, and Kensington with 81 to round out the top five finishers.
Greater Portmore also captured the girls’ section with 191.50 points, followed by Naggo Head with 162.50, Spanish Town on 97, Kensington with 58, and Angel’s with 57 points.
Naggo Head, meanwhile, topped the boys’ section by nosing out Greater Portmore with 157 points against their 156.50, Spanish Town were third on 128, Angel’s 54 for fourth, and Jericho with 46 points.
For coming out victorious, Greater Portmore collected $250,000, followed by Naggo Head $200,000, Spanish Town $150,000, while Angel’s Kensington, Jericho, Friendship, Old Harbour, Belmont Park, and Davis Primary received $75,000.
It was a tie for overall champion girl as Trecia-Ann Grant from Greater Portmore and Teixiera Johnson from Kensington ened with 18 points each, but Jordan Johnson from Spanish Town ran away with the boys’ title with 18 points.
