The roof of the new Progressive Plaza was abuzz with activity last Thursday, May 12, as Broken Plate co-principals Chef Damion “Stewie” Stewart and Kwasi Henry fêted their ‘day ones’ at the restaurant’s fourth-anniversary celebration. Attendees — many of whom have been indulging in Chef Stewart’s creations from his days at Unique Eats — reveled to the beats of DJ Danejah while enjoying the zesty orange and complex herbal notes of the event’s signature cocktail: Aperol Spritz.
Stewart and Henry’s trip down memory lane, had guests overcome with a mix of nostalgia and pride, as they detailed their journey, while lauding those instrumental to their success. “I remember when I was 28 (years old) Kwasi found a note that I had written at age 11, saying I wanted to open a restaurant before age 30,” shared Stewart. Henry quipped that it took “a lot of convincing” to get the ball rolling, but it has been worth the effort. The audience raised their glasses in agreement.
