Offroading on the Farm returns
Popular adventure event, Offroading on the Farm returns for 2022 at Brighton River in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, for May 22 and 23.
“We’re happy to be once again hosting Offroading on the Farm. The last one was held in August of last year, which we were lucky to do because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” Troy Bernard, event organiser, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
Offroading on the Farm continues its recent two-day format with camping on May 22, with the off-roading competition on the following day.
“We’re adding a bit more to the camping on Sunday, by having a cave hunt.”
Bernard explained that there is a cave rumoured to be in the area and will be encouraging campers to join the hunt as far as their off-roading vehicles can take them. He hopes this will keep the excitement high for the competition the next morning.
“Things will be different this time around,” he said.
Bernard said the event will move away from its sectional progression, to a winner-takes-all format. Entry fees will now be put into a prize pool, with some extra, and competitors will vie across all the obstacles for one victor to be determined.
“The tug-of-war will now be handled as a grudge match instead of part of the competition. Drivers can set their own price to compete for,” he said.
The obstacle course continues to deliver excitement with the Elephant Steps, Hill/Step/Log Climb, and the Hell Hole.
“The Balance Bridge has been fixed properly.”
New for the competition is a new Trail Challenge.
“This one has no spectators. The competitors will just disappear for about five minutes as they try to complete a trail next to the river and into the bush and then return to the venue.”
Those wishing to participate, but may not have the vehicular means, can rent an off-roader provided by the event organisers.
