ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) — Cricket West Indies will stage the Women’s Super50 Cup and the T20 Blaze next month in Guyana next month, as the tournaments return for the first time in two years after being stalled by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Super50 Cup will run from June 7-18 at the Everest Cricket Club, Enmore Cricket Ground and the Guyana National Stadium, while the T20 Blaze will be staged from June 19-25 at the Guyana National Stadium.

Three matches will be played on the five days of the T20 Blaze — 10:00 am, 2:30 pm and 7:00 pm — in a full calendar of action for spectators.

“We are delighted to see the return of the women’s regional tournament on our annual calendar as it is a crucial component of our cricket in the region,” said CWI’s director of cricket, Jimmy Adams.

“We are also pleased to have our international players in action on home soil playing with our regional players.

“Our women’s game is showing improvement, as was demonstrated with some good performances during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand earlier this year.

“Ideally we want to see further demonstration of that progress as we look to upcoming bilateral series and international events.

“Very importantly, the regional tournament will serve to identify players who could potentially graduate to our international squads in the near future.”

Barbados, title-holders in both formats, will start the defence of their Super50 crown against Guyana at the National Stadium while also clashing with the hosts in their opener of the T20 Blaze.
