Rest in heavenly peace, Mrs G
Dear Editor,
I got to know Barbara Gloudon when she started doing opinion pieces for the Jamaica Observer several years ago.
The columns were quite varied, well written, and interesting. For all the years Barbara wrote, she never missed a deadline for her Friday placement. Initially, the columns were submitted by hand on plain paper or discs and later by e-mail, all handled by her able assistant, Franceta, and sometimes by her daughter, Anya.
Barbara had many close friends and she loved them all. I remember that she was very close to Professor Rex Nettleford and his untimely death, while he was overseas, shattered her.
I was fond of her and was enormously flattered when she took me to a luncheon in Kingston where she was the guest speaker. By virtue of my work, I rarely had the opportunity for what one would call a full lunchtime, but I could not turn down Barbara.
We planned other meetings, but many did not materialise because of our mutual workloads. C’est la vie!
Condolence to her daughter, Anya; her sister, Lorna; and all other family members. Rest in heavenly peace, Barbara, with our dearest Lord and angels and all loved ones who have passed away.
