Nestlé presents refurbished lounge to children’s hospital
Nestlé Jamaica Limited, through its MAGGI brand, recently renovated the Patient Care Assistant Lounge at Bustamante Hospital for Children, making the space more comfortable for health-care workers who have been giving yeoman service to the country.
The totally refurbished facility was handed over to the hospital on Labour Day by MAGGI’s Regional Marketing Manager Ockino Petrie who said he found that there was a need for the space on his visit to the hospital on Mother’s Day to treat the nurses and doctors who have ‘mothered’ children over the years at the hospital.
“A refrigerator was a part of the needs list for the lounge at the hospital, but after seeing the space, we thought that we could do more,” a company news release quoted Petrie.
“The space is a home away from home for many of the staff members, particularly for those who are living far away, so we wanted to take it a step further to ensure proper work-life balance,” he said.
Michelle Campbell, the hospital’s deputy director of nursing services, was very grateful for the gesture and was quite elated when she saw the finished product.
“We had a lot of needs for the patient care assistants, who are the support team for the nurses. They use this room to take their breaks as well as to rest if there are extremely long shifts. There was no real area to relax, have their lunches properly as certain basic amenities were not afforded to them. This renovation is now a vast improvement as the area is a lot more convenient and a lot more comfortable,” she stated.
Campbell also expressed the view that the “comfortable working environment” will increase the productivity of the staff and boost their morale.
Additionally, she encouraged other companies to help the hospital so that other categories of staff can benefit from the goodwill of corporate entities.
