Slow dance with the devil
The devil hath power
To assume a pleasing shape.
— Shakespeare
And that, my friends, is what draws people to him. Don’t believe for one minute that the devil is a hideous, monstrous-looking beast with pointed horns, scales, forked tongue and a prehensile tail. Far from that, as those would only serve to repel prospective candidates as they present a very unappealing, horrid and disgusting being.
Instead, he presents himself as an alluring, enticing entity who not only lures people to get close to him, but also to dance with as well. And as you should know, when you dance with the devil, he won’t change, but you will.
In spite of that dire and sinister warning, countless people still opt for a slow dance with the devil, and that’s where their destruction and damnation begin and end. It’s a one-way street, a slippery slide down the slopes to hell from which many do not return. Some may fortunately get a reprieve and escape, but that sweet, alluring symphony still beckons, inviting another dance, a slow waltz, from which there is no salvation.
“Come on, man, just one more dance for old time’s sake, just one more slow dance.”
But the devil not only assumes a pleasing shape, he also comes in various forms, some of which are familiar to us, while others we may not even be aware of until it’s too late. Whatever the form may be, the enticement, the allure, the pleasure of gliding across the dance floor in that slow dance is the same, even as the steps spiral down to the depths of despair.
That’s my symphony today, a ‘Slow dance with the devil’, right after these not so devilish responses to what I had to say about ‘Defining roles’.
Hi Tony,
The way things are going nowadays, what with men swapping genders, it is becoming harder to define roles. An example is a born man who has a sex change to become a woman and enters athletic events competing as a woman. As for the initiating of sexual activities, I have no problem with the woman making the first or all the moves.

Hail Teerob,
Your analogy of a man preferring to change the tyres on the car and a woman doing the dishes is spot on. No one is saying that one task is greater or lesser than the other, but simply that some tasks are better suited to the different genders. Of course, men can wash the dishes, and of course women can change tyres, but ask them which they prefer, and hear their response. Defined roles simply mean what each gender is more comfortable doing.

Many people love to dance, as it not only transports them to a different pleasant dimension, but also gives them a chance to hold someone close to them and feel the movement of their bodies close to theirs.
At least that’s what used to happen back in the day when people used to enjoy dancing close to each other, cheek to cheek, pressing their bodies against each other, feeling her soft pliant breasts against his firm chest, pelvis grinding, hips swaying rhythmically to the soft strains of the music. A slow dance can be erotic.
Yes, dancing can be sensual, sexual, seductive, passionate, erotic, and that’s why a slow dance can lead to deeper things, sometimes sinister. If you dance with the right person it can be a beautiful experience, but if it’s with the devil or the devil incarnate, then it can lead to a hell that entraps you like the coils of a python.
Here are some lyrics from the song Slow Dance With The Devil, by Charlie Wilson.
The devil and I got up to do a slow dance
The devil and I got up to do a slow dance
